Cost-effective, functional balustrade systems at Bledisloe Wharf Carparking Facility

Ports of Auckland is New Zealand’s biggest import port, handing nearly 1 million containers a year. A new multi-purpose car handling facility has just been built on the wharf to store imported cars. The wharf currently handles over 250,000 imported cars a year and this new facility means the port will no longer need as much wharf space to unload imported vehicles.

Moddex were delighted to be selected by Hawkins Construction to supply our balustrade system on the two main accessible stairs of the car-handling facility.

Moddex supplied Hawkins Construction with a design build solution, utilizing our cost effective, compliant & fit-for-purpose CB30 Commercial balustrade system. This system was selected as an alternative to the balustrade that was initially specified by the architect due to its fast lead times, functionality & cost effectiveness.

Time and Cost Savings from Moddex

Our no-weld modular solution eliminated the need for costly, disruptive hot works permits and on-site cutting and welding. There was no specialist equipment needed for installation. The only tools needed for installation were a handheld dyna drill and battery powered impact drill.

Our modular system meant components were quick and easy to assemble onsite, significantly reducing installation lead times – saving our client valuable time and costly project delays.

By choosing Moddex our client benefited from significant cost and time savings. This is because Moddex handrail systems:

  • are easy to maintain
  • are manufactured from the highest-grade materials

  • have a lower lifetime cost of ownership than any other system on the market.

End to end value proposition

Moddex worked with the client right through from concept to delivery and installation. We advised as to the system types to be suit the application and meet compliance to the New Zealand Building Codes and other New Zealand standards. By working closely with the client, we ensured every project specification was meet and any potential hurdles were identified, scoped out and solved early in the consultation phase

Once the structure was in place the process for Moddex was firstly completing a site measure and then producing design drawing for approval from the client and architect. This shop drawings for approval stage bought clarity to the proposed design which eliminated any potential disparity between parties down the track.

Our Moddex team completed all fabrication in-house at our purpose-built manufacturing facility. Following our fabrication process of cutting, bending and welding the product was then hot dip galvanized. All items where then sent to site flat packed and fully pre-configured, ready for immediate installation.
