Moddex proudly announces its recent ‘Great Place to Work’ certification. This recognition acknowledges our unwavering commitment to fostering a work environment where every team member feels valued, heard, and empowered. Here’s an insight into the journey and the driving forces behind this achievement:
Great Place to Work Certification
The Great Place to Work Certification is awarded by the global research firm, Great Place to Work Institute, to companies that exhibit high-trust, high-performance workplace cultures.
Awarded by the Great Place to Work Institute, this certification is a testament to organizations that prioritize trust, transparency, and employee well-being. It’s based on two core components: the Trust Index© employee survey and the Culture Brief™, which offers insights into organizational practices.
Moddex pursued this certification to value employee voices and create a transparent environment where feedback is not just collected but acted upon. This process strengthens trust within the organisation.
Defining the culture at Moddex
At Moddex, the culture is deeply rooted in empathy, that is, to have every team member feel seen and understood. Transparent communication helps foster an environment where everyone is informed and as such feels a sense of belonging regardless of where they reside. A key component, in the words of Gary Vee, is understanding that each team member has a different care language. There are also avenues to support the professional, financial, social and personal wellbeing of the team. The key is to ensure that there is the dialect to show them we care.
Kate McKenzie, Head of People and Culture for Moddex plays a pivotal role in this journey. With a background in psychology and human resources, Kate champions an environment where employees not only work but genuinely thrive. Throughout the first years of university study, Kate was drawn to psychology, but it was the realisation that she could harness these principles within a workplace that she felt a real connection.
Kate says, “by understanding the nuances of individual wellbeing and the broader context of organizational dynamics, I can create an environment where employees feel understood, supported, and empowered”.
Since joining in July 2022, her focus has been on making Moddex a Great Place to Work. With a focus on bridging the company’s mission and the wellbeing and success of our team members, Kate works across all teams within the business – at the leadership, business unit and local branch level.
“From the moment someone considers joining our team [and] until the day they might decide to pursue a different path… we ensure that every step is nurtured and positive” says Kate.
The Certification Journey:
To obtain the Great Place to Work certification, there is a time commitment required to gather details about the organisational culture and practices. The formal components specifically include a culture brief i.e., a statement of supporting evidence of these practices along with the Trust Index© employee survey. When seeking the Great Place to Work certification, businesses often grapple with several challenges. One prominent challenge is meeting the minimum participation rates for the survey, ensuring a representative and comprehensive insight into the organization’s culture. Kate emphasises a key component of the survey rollout is ensuring a good lead time for communicating to employees. “Consistent reminders and explaining the benefits and anonymity of the survey builds trust and confidence to ensure uptake by employees” she explains.
Thanks to the ingrained culture of transparency, from open book management to company-wide communication programs, employees have always felt confident and safe to speak up and share their genuine experiences and perspectives at Moddex.
Employee Engagement & Continuous Improvement:
Moddex actively seeks and values employee feedback through regular surveys, team meetings, and check-ins. The company is dedicated to acting on this feedback, turning it into tangible actions and improvements. Initiatives like ‘The Great Game of Business’ have significantly boosted morale and engagement.
Listening to employees and acting on their feedback is a core principle at Moddex. Through all levels of the company feedback is actively sought through regular surveys, team meetings, and check-ins. This also includes peer-to-peer feedback and public acknowledgement of Core Values in action. What sets Moddex apart is its unwavering commitment to turning every piece of feedback into tangible actions and improvements.
Moddex plans to maintain its ‘Great Place to Work’ status by upholding transparency, well-being, and continuous feedback. Upcoming initiatives include implementing a Learning Management System for more comprehensive professional development opportunities.
