The challenge
The stringent requirements of AS 5100 and the NZTA Bridge Manual and their application to all aspects of a bridge – including the pedestrian and cyclist barriers is a real challenge (see AS5100.2 clause 12.5 and NZTA Bridge Manual Clause B6.4).
Why? The rigorous deflection and load requirements create a rigmarole of requests for information in order to put forward and approve a compliant solution.
