Project Background:
Traditionally at the Woodend Pump Station, operators would have to harness themselves up to lift the access lid and work inside. This meant specialist vehicles were needed to enable harness anchor points. This was difficult to manage and even though the operators were harnessed up there was still a risk of working at heights.
The station is also located next to a public park which meant there is a fall hazard to the public.
This highlighted the need for a barrier system around the opening of the pump station. The Wastewater Asset Manager from the Waimakariri District Council contacted Moddex for a rail system to be installed so the operators could open up and access the well inside with no risk to themselves and leave the lids open with no concerns about the public getting close and falling in.
Why was Moddex product selected?
Moddex was selected as we were able to provide a full end-to end solution from design right through to installation. Along with this they were also able to provide producer statements (a PS1 and PS3) for the client.
The moddex system works well for the council as it saves them time and money. Our barrier eliminated the need for the operators to be harnessed up and the need for allocated specialised vehicles to be harnessed to.
Client Feedback:
The Moddex system works well for us as it saves a bit of time and money. The important thing is the operators are happy, they like it and it’s a move forward that they are happy with.
