Strengthening Solomon Islands infrastructure with Moddex pre-engineered Bridgerail®

Four essential bridges are being rebuilt in the Solomon Island with modular solutions, and Moddex is proud to be in the mix.

As part of the Solomon Islands Roads and Aviation Project (SIRAP) Phase 2, construction is progressing on four vital crossings in the Malaita Province — Kolofe 1, Kolofe 2, Su’u, and Bira — aimed at improving local infrastructure and delivering long-term benefits for surrounding communities.

Moddex was engaged by modular bridge specialist InQuik to supply approximately 100m of Bridgerail® balustrading for all four bridges. Designed to meet local compliance standards and withstand harsh environmental conditions, Moddex barrier systems offer a robust, low-maintenance safety solution ideal for remote locations like Malaita.

Led by the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID) and delivered by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), the SIRAP works aim to improve access to essential services, strengthen disaster resilience, and enable safer, more efficient travel throughout the islands.

The new bridges follow the success of Bio 1 and Bio 2 in late 2023 — the first InQuik modular bridges installed in the Solomon Islands under SIRAP Phase 1 — and continue the region’s move toward faster, more resilient infrastructure.

With earthworks and fabrication of the bridges and balustrading now underway, the Kolofe, Su’u and Bira bridges mark another milestone in the Solomon Island’s infrastructure development. Once complete, they will support stronger connectivity, safer travel, and better access for communities, businesses, and future generations alike.

The bridge and balustrade systems are expected to arrive onsite in August.
