Western Sydney and Wollongong Schools Upgrade create valuable jobs in the Construction Industry

Over the past two years, the NSW Government has ramped up work on new and upgraded schools in Greater Western Sydney, with a record $4.2 billion investment going into building public schools.

Premier Gadys Berejiklian said “Greater Western Sydney is growing and we are investing to ensure children in these areas have the best quality education possible. These projects will expand schools by at least 3500 more student places – while also generating valuable jobs in the construction industry.”

The NSW Government is still continuing to fast track infrastructure programs across the state amidst the current crisis, in the light that these projects will provide jobs and boost the economy in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among the projects, worth a combined $220 million, included the upgrades of the following schools which are now finished and operational:

  • Gwynneville Public School
  • Cecil Hills Public School
  • Marsden Road Public School
  • Quakers Hill Public School
  • Riverstone High School
  • Wollongong Public School

Hansen Yuncken was selected as the head contractor to deliver these new and revamped high-quality schools. Project deliverable included new teaching, learning and outdoors spaces, extensions to halls, performance studios and digital hubs, canteen upgrades and administration refurbishments.

Having previously worked with Hansen Yuncken, the client knew that they could trust the expert design and manufacturing teams at Moddex to deliver the ultimate, durable and aesthetic solution. Moddex was selected as the contractor for the Western Sydney Schools Projects to install the handrail and balustrade systems for the landscape packages throughout the schools including external stairs, ramps and retaining walls.

Variations invariably came up on the Western Sydney Schools Projects, and our project management team worked quickly and efficiently with our client to measure, deliver and install seamless modular barrier systems that weren’t originally part of the project scope.

Fast lead-times were a necessary part of the scope, where handrails were required to be installed immediately to each location, ensuring maximum safety was maintained onsite. We worked flexibly to ensure we had all materials and the team ready to jump on at a moment’s notice. Whenever an area became ready, we got straight to work.

The beauty about Moddex is our guaranteed end-to-end dependability, availability, quick-thinking and flexibility onsite and off. To mount a balustrade along the top of long sections of concrete retaining wall, our engineering experts swiftly custom-engineered a solution that compliantly mounted to the face of the retaining wall, completely meeting compliance standards.

Plus, with warehouses fully stocked as standard, we were able to supply a large amount of the modular product in a matter of just a few hours, building the solution quickly onsite with absolutely no delay to our client.
