Location of Stairs to Prevent Protrusion of Handrails at Property Boundaries

Are your handrails designed to be compliant on stairs that are located at property boundaries?

In accordance with AS1428.1-2021 Clause 11.1 (a), stairs that intersect at a property boundary need to be set back by a minimum of 900mm so that the handrail (compliant to Clause 12) and TGSI’s do not protrude into the transverse path of travel.

As shown in the plan & section view below, the Moddex Assistrail AR150 has been designed in to show that it fits within the 900mm minimum.

To save time, resource and ease of installation when specifying Moddex guardrails or balustrades please consult the Compliance Tip or contact us on 1800 663 339 (Australia) or 0800 663 339 (New Zealand)
