The $1.75 billion Regional Rail Revival program – a joint initiative of the Australian and Victorian governments – includes upgrading every regional passenger train line in Victoria. The recently completed Ballarat Line Upgrade was designed to deliver much-needed extra services for growing communities along the line, creating the infrastructure for extra peak and off-peak rail services to accommodate Melbourne’s outer west and Ballarat.
As part of the Ballarat Line Upgrade, Moddex was contracted to provide handrails and balustrades for 3 new-build stations – Rockbank, Bacchus Marsh and Cobblebank – and for level crossing replacements, pedestrian overpasses and underpasses. We created custom designed kit-form modular systems using components from our Moddex Assistrail ranges. Over 1km of Moddex Tuffrail industrial handrails were installed alongside the track between stations.

The scope of the project involved complex design issues including the need for new handrail to fit around existing custom balustrade systems. Working closely with the client, we secured the relevant data and our engineering and design teams provided hole centres, post heights, testing and pre-engineering information to show clearly how the Moddex system would work on their new structure. From here, we engineered the perfect customised modular handrail system to suit all 3 stations, creating a stylish, modern and long-lasting finish. Our client received everything perfectly cut to length, in kit-form, and chose to employ the Moddex teams to install and complete the job.
