Project Background
The Midpul bridge is a pedestrian bridge over the Stuart Highway, one of Australia’s major highways running from Darwin, NT through Alice Springs to South Australia. The bridge was named after Prince of Wales, a Larrakia artist who was born with the tribal name Midpul.
The construction of The Gateway Shopping Centre in Yarrawonga meant works to the Midpul Bridge to re-align the bridge with the newly-constructed shared path along Yarrawonga Road.
As part of the new bikepath construction, a section of the bridge was demolished and rebuilt to align with the new path.
The project will mean a more direct route to the Palmerston CBD, Yarrawonga Industrial precinct and the Gateway Shopping Centre.
Products/configurations used on project
Bikeway Barriers Bikesafe BS45
Why was Moddex product selected?
The original Midpul bridge includes an aesthetically eye catching design of spear grass fencing panels along the bridge. Having only been installed in recent years – Moddex worked alongside BMD constructions to utilise the existing spear grass on the new bridge.
There were many considerations to ensure the 1800mm powder coated, galvanised bar rails that formed the spear grass panels would securely attach to the new bikeway barrier – such as the weight and mount type.
Moddex was able to attach the 20 metres of existing spear grass panel to the BS45 Bikesafe barrier through a purpose-built mount for this project. Our modular proprietary system not only provided versatility to meet the project requirements but also met compliance requirements under AS1428.
A full installation drawing pack was issued with the product, enabling a smooth and efficient self-installation process for the client without the cost of specialist trades.
