Project Background

The Bass Coast Rail Trail is one of Victoria’s coastal trails which offers panoramic views of Bass Strait from the Bourne Creek Trestle Bridge at Kilcunda. The Bass Coast Rail Trail links to the George Bass Coastal Walk at Kilcunda, so it is possible to walk from the Punch Bowl in San Remo all the way to the centre of Wonthaggi.

The trail’s gravel surface and safety bikeway rail has been completed from Anderson to Wonthaggi with the assistance of a grant through the Victorian State Government’s Small Towns Development Fund. The trail is now fully constructed and provides a safe off-road path between the two towns.

Products/configurations used on project

Bikesafe BS20

Why was Moddex product selected?

Moddex product was the perfect choice, as the paths (mostly in remote locations) did not lend themselves to traditional fabrication on site and compliance to Austroads Standards was a priority.

By utilising the BS20 product wherever there is a significant fall or incline beside the path, it means that cyclists are safe at all times in an environment that could be harsh and damaging in the event of an accident.
