Project Overview
The Sydney Gateway project is a major infrastructure upgrade that commenced in 2021 and finished late 2024.
Undertaken by reputable construction company, JOHN HOLLAND PTY LTD & SEYMOUR WHYTE CONSTRUCTIONS, the project was designed to improve connectivity from Sydney’s motorway network to Sydney Airport.
The project includes over 5km of new roads, 19 new bridges and over 3km of pathways for pedestrian and cycling connections. A key feature, the 800m Deborah Lawrie Flyover, separates traffic to the Domestic Terminals from that heading to Port Botany and the Eastern Distributor, ensuring a smoother flow.
Sydney Gateway will streamline travel for motorists and divert up to 10,000 trucks a day from local streets. According to Australian Aviation, “[the] project will significantly cut travel time, shaving up to 40 minutes off peak-hour journeys from Parramatta to Sydney Airport.”
The project also supported over 8,000 jobs during construction, highlighting the projects success in supporting both commuters and the local community.
How was Moddex involved?
Moddex played a role in the Sydney Gateway project by designing a custom modular barrier system for over 3km of pedestrian and cycling pathways.
Working closely with JOHN HOLLAND PTY LTD & SEYMOUR WHYTE CONSTRUCTIONS from the beginning of the project, Moddex developed a bespoke barrier solution with flat bar post connections that were fit for purpose with the project requirements. This custom design was an enhanced version of the original specifications by offering a cleaner, more efficient connection to the flat bar posts.
Moddex’s expertise ensured that the final system met both aesthetic and functional needs.
Being a part of the Sydney Gateway project has been a fantastic opportunity for Moddex to showcase our capability in delivering custom modular fit for purpose and complaint balustrade solutions. We are thankful for the opportunity to be part of such a significant project.
