Project Overview
Moddex was engaged by Lauder & Sons to support the delivery of three social housing projects in Emerald, Winton, and Blackall. The works formed part of the Queensland Government’s Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) program, which is focused on providing key worker and social housing in regional and remote areas. The program relies on prefabrication and modular building techniques to accelerate delivery, using standardised floor plans and reduced site time to meet strict delivery targets of 20 weeks for design and 22 weeks for construction.
Challenge
With such compressed timelines, there was little tolerance for delays. Every trade needed to work in sequence, and any component requiring length installation processes – such as traditional welded ramp and handrail systems – risked disrupting the schedule with additional hot works permit requirements and added costs, particularly on remote sites.
Moddex Solution
To support the accelerated MMC delivery model, Lauder & Sons opted for pre-engineered ramp and handrail systems. Across the three sites, Moddex supplied Ezibilt™ EB120 ramps with Assistrail® AR20 handrails which eliminated the need for on-site welding or hot works. Installation was straightforward, ensuring the access systems were delivered safely, compliantly and within the 22-week construction window. This approach supported a smooth build process and helped ensure the timely completion of much-needed worker and social housing in regional communities.
