Project Background
The Halsey Wharf along Auckland’s waterfront is to host the 36th America’s Cup in 2021. The America’s cup is a one of the oldest and best-known trophies in international sport, dating back to 1851.
As part of this project, approximately 1 kilometre of handrail was required along the Halsey Wharf for the safety of the Yachting Teams. Moddex was pleased to have the opportunity to be part of this project by working alongside Wynyard Edge Alliance and BECA to design, supply and install compliant handrails.
The America’s Cup event will result in greater upgraded public spaces and access to the waterfront in the future, allowing the public to experience the water space without a boat. Moddex’s modular handrails will mean greater safety for the public.
Products/Configurations used on project
Tuffrail – TR20
Why was Moddex product selected?
The Moddex TR20 system was required along the waterfront, to protect the competing America’s Cup Teams from the potential fall hazard created by the drop into the water below. Moddex being experts in balustrading and handrails, was the obvious choice with our modular, load tested, and fully certified system.
Our modular, no-weld system meant that the need for hot work permits and fires spotters on site was eliminated, resulting in efficient and easy installation and install time around 50% faster with product coming to site flat packed and ready to go.
