Project Background:

In 2017, an alliance of McConnell Dowell was awarded the multimillion dollar contact to remove the Level Crossing on Abbotts Road in Dandenong south.

Raising the Cranbourne rail line above Abbotts Road was set out to remove the dangerous level crossing, enhancing safety and keeping the road connected to the busy Dandenong South Industrial precinct.

With the level crossing at Abbotts Road now gone, and thousands of vehicles are proving benefit daily. Trains are now safely separated from more than 20,000 vehicles that use the road each day, causing the busy industrial precincts to experience minimal congestion.

The project has had positive impact on the surrounding environment, creating a new open space for pedestrian and cyclists in the community.

Moddex worked alongside McConnell Dowell to supply of over 1.3km of handrail and balustrade along the elevated trackside.

Why was Moddex product selected?

Moddex was selected based on product suitability – the no-weld solution fit the project brief perfectly for installation on the elevated rail structure.

The quick and easy construction enhanced productivities during the construction phase considerably and Moddex significantly eliminated project risk, by providing fully compliant, as-specified products.
