Project Background
The Gooseponds in North Mackay are a combination of popular walking tracks around a large central wetland lagoon, an initiative of Mackay Regional Council’s 10,000 steps program.
In 2014, a 2.5-metre-wide section was added to the existing path near Hicks Road, to link up under the Bruce Highway and connect with the existing path near Willets Road.
The Gooseponds Walk pathway passes under the Bruce Highway, offering a safe crossing option, and includes multiple access points and a few large loops along the way, totalling close to 8 kilometres of shared pathway.
