Project Background:
Te Mata School is a primary school situated in a rural location at the heart of the Te Mata community. Moddex was able to supply and install compliant balustrading for the stairs, ramp and deck on one of the building blocks to ensure the safety of the students.
Challenges we faced:
Fixing handrail into the timber decking in a school environment was a challenge Moddex came across because of the tendency for the handrail to work loose.
How we overcame:
Moddex worked with the architect and the client to come up with a solution. We overcame this by using a structural through bolt through the decking which clamped the baseplate through the joist instead of the usual coach screw into the timber. This provides a much more permanent attachment of barriers to the deck.
