Project overview
Perth Film Studios is Western Australia’s first purpose-built screen production facility, providing a major new home for film and television production in the state. Moddex was engaged by Built to deliver a significant handrail and guardrail package across the overhead gantries and access stairs of four sound stages.
The Moddex solution
Working with architect Hassell and our client Built, Moddex supplied approximately 4,450 lineal metres of pre-engineered Tuffrail® and Assistrail® systems across the four sound stages, providing safe access from floor level through to the overhead gantry network.
The package included approximately 3,800 lineal metres of Tuffrail® TR25 with solid kickplate to elevated gantries reaching up to 15 metres above the studio floor, providing handrail, midrail and kerb-level protection along the technical accessways. Additional Tuffrail® TR20 was also used along sound-stage stairs and around floor-level sliding-door areas, while Assistrail® AR150 offset wall-mounted handrails were supplied to the annex stairs.
With kilometres of handrail and guardrail required across a complex elevated environment, Moddex’s modular, no-weld system provided the basis for a custom project solution that could accommodate changes in direction and interfaces with surrounding structure and services. Supported by Moddex’s internal BIM/CAD capabilities, the systems were supplied in kit form ready for installation.
