Design Engineer: WSP
Main Contractor: Combined Road & Traffic Services
Project Background:
Located near the Bay of Plenty, the Thornton Hall Road Bridge had a pedestrian walkway alongside it that required a compliant balustrade solution to meet the relevant standards for safety from falling.
(The requirement was a 1.1m high balustrade barrier), complying with AS/NZS 1170 Table 3.3 C1/C2 and the NZ Building Code F4/AS1 (Safety from Falling).
The supplier of the originally specified bespoke barrier system was unable to provide the necessary engineering documentation. At this point Moddex was contacted with an expression of interest in our proprietary systems. We were able to provide an ‘off the shelf’ PS1 producer statement that met the relevant loading requirement to satisfy council sign off.
Products/configurations used on project:
Conectabal CB10 Commercial Balustrade
Why was Moddex product selected?
Compliance was a critical factor. The balustrade had to comply with AS/NZS 1170 Table 3.3 C1/C2 and the NZ Building Code F4/AS1 (Safety from Falling). By selecting Moddex proprietary systems, compliance was guaranteed, and a Producer Statement was easily provided giving the client confidence we were the right choice.
The client also required a balustrade that was user-friendly and easy to install. Our processes allowed us to work off the client’s site measure, produce the barrier off-site and send it to site with installation instructions and all the fixings for our client to self-install.
Customer Feedback:
Moddex were very helpful and accommodating, providing prompt attention to queries and exemplary service. Great compliant and fit-for-purpose product – no hesitation referring moddex to others.
