Project Background

In 2020, Auckland Transport began a programme to replace two culverts under Wolverton Street in Auckland. After a 2-years of construction, the Brian Perry Civil team has achieved practical completion on Culvert 1.  This is a fantastic achievement by Auckland Transport and Brian Perry Civil, in delivering a complex piece of infrastructure that will provide a more resilient stormwater and transportation network for West Auckland.

Both culverts were coming to the end of their design life and needed to be replaced to ensure the flow of waterways could be maintained during major storms. This work was vital to the safety of areas around the culverts, as in recent years there have been examples of flooding caused by a lack of capacity. Upgrading these culverts meant the disruption and damage that has previously been seen in the area due to storms could be prevented. The new larger culverts are able to maintain greater amount of rainfall and reduce the risk of flooding in the area during frequent storm events.

Why Moddex was selected

Guaranteed Compliance

Moddex were engaged by Brian Perry Civil to design and supply a balustrade solution around the edge of the culverts. The balustrade had to meeting NZTA bridge manual loadings, and Moddex was able to offer an off-the-shelf solution backed up with PS1 documentation that meet the loadings and brought cost savings for our client.

A design process that ensured everything fit on site

The Moddex solution was attractive to the client as our full design process meant our client could be provided with a full visual check that everything has been designed correctly, streamlining the production and installation process.  We developed shop drawings off their full site scan, and once approved these were developed into installation drawings for the client to follow during install.

Corrosion resistant

Being situated near water, the balustrading had to be coated to a certain galvanised thickness for corrosion purposes. Moddex balustrade systems are built to withstand extreme corrosive conditions, so we could offer our client a high durability system with a low lifetime cost of ownership.  Putting our components through tough testing procedures – such as salt/acid fog booth and sinusoidal vibration testing – we ensure a corrosion-proof system.

You and your team have been doing great on our project. Easy communications, fast responses. Lucky we have you guys on board. Cheers
