Project Background
The City Rail Link Project, undertaken by Link Alliance is New Zealand’s largest infrastructure project, involving the construction of an underground rail link to enable seamless travel and reduce congestion in the Auckland city. The project will significantly improve commuting times, increase transport capacity and enhance accessibility to key areas of Auckland.
Moddex worked with Link Alliance to supply a total of 1946m of modular handrails and balustrades including our CB10 Mesh Balustrade and TR20 and TR25 industrial handrails to various areas of the project. The handrails were designed to meet specific safety requirements, including integrated LED lights within the CB10 Mesh Balustrade.
Installation Challenges and how they were overcome
One of the primary challenges Moddex faced during the project was working around active rail lines during installation. The installs needed to be completed within a strict two-day period to minimize disruption to train services. By working closely with Link Alliance and key stakeholders, Moddex carefully scheduled our installations and successfully installed our barriers within the designated time frames, minimising disruption to train operations.
Due to the large scope of the project and the requirements for precise alignment and fitting of the barriers to ensure compliance with safety standards, Moddex utilised laser scanning technology to capture detailed measurements of the project area. This allowed for precise design and manufacturing of the handrails, reducing the margin for error, and facilitating a streamlined installation process.
Design Challenges and how they were overcome
Moddex faced a unique design challenge during the project, involving the integration of LED lights within the CB1o9 mesh balustrade. This was a difficult feature to design, and required careful planning and execution to achieve the desired outcome. By maintaining close communication with the client, Moddex delivered a suitable solution that the client was fully satisfied with.
