Project Overview
This Coburg Primary School project involved a staged accessibility upgrade across an existing school campus. The works replaced non-compliant steps and ramps with a continuous, DDA-compliant access path using modular steel ramps, concrete landings, and compliant handrails. Moddex was engaged by Domain National to design and supply Ezibilt™ prefabricated ramp and stair systems that could be integrated into the existing environment.
The Challenge
Delivering compliant access across an established campus meant resolving several disconnected access issues within tight site constraints. Differing level changes demanded long ramp runs to achieve compliant gradients within limited footprints bordered by existing structures. The project was also delivered in stages, requiring a high level of documentation clarity and certainty to avoid rework or approval delays.
Moddex Solution
Moddex provided Ezibilt™ pre-engineered modular ramp and stair systems configured precisely to the site measurements and constraints. Ezibilt™ enabled gradients, landings, handrail continuity, and edge protection to be resolved and meet accessibility requirements within the available footprint. The solution incorporated 1:14 and 1:15 ramp angles integrated with some concrete landings, continuous handrails, HDG Conectabal® balustrades, Assistrail® handrail and Flexalyte kerb rails.
Prefabricated ramp sections were bolted together on site, providing a faster and more predictable alternative to in-situ concrete construction. By locking in the configurations at design stage, we ensured approved documentation translated directly to onsite installation. This reduced construction risk, supported efficient staging, and delivered durable, low-maintenance access solutions suited to an education environment.
“With a fixed deadline before Term 1 2026, the program was tight. Despite the challenges, Moddex delivered on time, allowing the school to reopen the upgraded areas and ensure safe access for students from day one.”
