Project Background
Over the last 18 months Moddex has designed, manufactured and installed a wide range of handrail and balustrade solutions for Basin Primary School, which is situated at the foot of the Dandenong’s in Melbourne.
Working with our long-term construction partner, City Living Property Services, our main works were focused on the school oval, where we provided new handrails, tactile indicators, stair nosings and landscaping for the play areas.
During this project, Moddex also manufactured and installed:
- Handrails and balustrades to classroom areas
- Conectabal® balustrades to administration stairs and ramps
- Our popular Tuffrail handrail solution to the maintenance area
A leader in major education infrastructure projects
Moddex has partnered with City Living Property Services to successfully deliver over 25 projects in Victorian schools over the last 5 years, ensuring the ongoing safety, accessibility and inclusiveness for students and teachers across the State.
While our proprietary modular handrail and balustrades eliminate design and engineering costs, we also remain at the forefront of the Victorian School Building Association’s (VSBA) construction regulations – making us the perfect partner for City Living Property Services.
“If designs change for a particular school project, we can quickly adapt and offer alternative configurations to meet the VSBA compliance standards,” said Rick Parberry, Major Projects Consultant on this project. “This flexibility and constant double checking generally doesn’t happen with our competitors.”
Safety solutions focused on all users
A key element of the VSBA building code is to ensure safe access for any students, teachers or visitors who are blind or visually impaired or are mobility impaired.
Moddex has engineered tactile indicators called Intac®, which help to warn pedestrians of changes to the environment like slopes, stairs or a changes in surface.
Our durable Intac tactiles were installed across the grounds of Basin Primary School, providing safe navigation for all blind or visually impaired users.
We also manufactured and installed a number of disability handrails from our Assistrail® range of solutions, helping people to traverse areas safely and avoid hazards.
“The Basin Primary School project incorporated all the key Moddex benefits to deliver a truly inclusive user environment,” Rick said. “Guaranteed compliance, fast installation, highly durable solutions and the ability to meet with changing timeframes and regulations.”
