Project Background
Located in the heart of Christchurch City, the new 6-storey Christchurch City Hotel was architecturally designed by Architecture Studio and constructed by Cook Brothers Construction.
The hotel was built to the highest safety standards, with quality and comfort in mind. It features 4 levels of accommodation, a ground tenancy, a rooftop bar, and a restaurant.
Moddex worked with Architecture Studio and Cook Brothers Construction to design, supply and install our handrail and balustrade systems on the back-of-house egress stair.

Working with the architect to speed up project design and reduce risks
Moddex worked with the architect in the early stages of the project, assisting with compliance advice, PS1 documentation and our downloadable design files.
Our design files saved the architect hours of time. Rather than manually drawing a balustrade, they could choose the system that best suited their need from our family of products and configure the correct sized components within their design. They also had the assurance they were specifying a balustrade system that was compliant with all regulations and standards.
Working with the contractor for a guaranteed fit on site
The pre-cast stair already had steel plates welded to the stair, so we had to weld our stanchions into the steel plates. This required a lot of co-ordination and attention to detail, particularly when it came to measuring designing, fabricating the stanchions and installing. Moddex was the ideal choice because of our detailed end to end design process and our flexibility throughout the design, manufacture and build phases.
Our process involved creating design drawings for approval based off a detailed site measure. The design drawing were then checked against as-built measurements on site by our client and ourselves. This ensured that we manufactured a system that fitting to the structure with precision and eliminated any possible re-work.
