Project Overview
Moddex supplied and delivered more than 1km of modular handrail and balustrade systems across six enclosed fire stairwells for the Auckland Airport Transport Hub, completed in June 2024. Delivered for main contractor, Icon, the scope formed part of the new four-storey parking and transport facility servicing Auckland Airport’s international terminal. The expansion provides improved pick-up and drop-off infrastructure designed to support passenger movement and traffic flow across one of New Zealand’s busiest transport precincts.
The Challenge
Enclosed fire stairs within the large undercover parking structure required a solution suited to restricted installation environments. Tight stair core footprints, limited ventilation and constrained access creates challenges for transporting and installing traditional fabricated systems.
Moddex Solution
Moddex supplied Assistrail® AR150 wall mounted handrails and Conectabal® CB40 balustrade systems across the six stairwells. The pre-engineered, modular design enabled easier handling and installation within confined areas. The no-weld systems also supported streamline onsite installation while maintaining consistent quality and compliance outcomes across the project.
