Project overview
West Tarneit Station is a new rail station delivered by Victoria’s Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP). Managed by the Western Program Alliance (WPA) – a joint venture led by McConnell Dowell Downer – the station was designed to serve the growing western suburbs of Melbourne, providing commuters with a modern, accessible rail facility.
Moddex was engaged across multiple scopes throughout the station’s construction, supplying handrail, balustrade and barrier systems to meet the project’s stringent rail infrastructure requirements.
The Moddex solution
Working closely with the WPA, consulting engineer Arup (VIC) and other subcontractors, Moddex delivered a comprehensive, multi-scope package of approximately 933 lineal metres of custom and proprietary HDG handrail, balustrade and barrier systems. The package incorporated Tuffrail®, Assistrail® and Conectabal® systems across four distinct areas of the station.
Conectabal® CB20M mesh balustrades were used along the pedestrian underpass wingwalls, while customised Assistrail® configurations (including AR10, AR20 and AR130) were installed across six ramp and stair runs throughout the station and additional platform walkways and stairs. Tuffrail® TR25 used along the station embankments in both straight and angled configurations, featuring deep inground mounting to suit the site conditions.
