Project Overview
Cairns Brothers Leagues Club worked with TPG Architects, Keir QLD and Commercial Property Services (CPS) on a significant $12 million redevelopment of Stan Williams Park. The project aimed to transform the venue into a leading facility for both sporting and community events. Central to the upgrade was the construction of a contemporary grandstand with about 600 seats and, in addition, a 2,500-square-metre undercover spectator area. Completed in mid-2025, the stadium now stands as one of the leading sports venues in Cairns.
The Challenge
One of the key challenges of the redevelopment was ensuring spectator safety and compliance across a variety of applications. The project team required barrier systems capable of withstanding stadium and crowd load ratings, while also adapting to different site conditions such as grandstands, indoor stairways and retaining walls. In addition, the tropical climate of Far North Queensland demanded a durable finish that would deliver long-term corrosion resistance.
Moddex Solution
Moddex supplied more than 300 metres of Assistrail and Conectabal systems in a HDG390 finish. The top-mounted systems were engineered to be compliant with stadium and crowd load requirements and were installed across the grandstand, indoor stairs and retaining walls. The pre-engineered nature of the Moddex systems enabled quick installation, consistency in appearance and a compliant solution that will serve the stadium well into the future.
