Project Background
Glenfield Intermediate School was established in 1972 and has been supporting students with academic learning ever since.
As part of the New Zealand Government’s $1.2 billion commitment into refurbishing and expanding existing schools to ensure school properties continue to support education into the years ahead, a new 8 classroom teaching block was built for the school.
As a preferred supplier to the Ministry of Education for handrails and balustrades for the relocatable learning space programme, Moddex was contracted by A-Line construction, a design build construction company, to design, supply and install our modular, proprietary handrail and balustrade systems.
Why was Moddex selected?
Customisation & compliance
As the teaching space was utilised for special needs requirements, a 1.8m high anti climb balustrade was required. This balustrade also had to comply to the NZ Building Code – F4 Safety from Falling and meet the required structural loadings.
To achieve F4 – Safety from Falling loading requirements at 1.8m high was a difficult request. Because Moddex are experts in this field, we were able to advise as to compliance and loading requirements and produce a site-specific PS1 for the custom designed balustrade fixed to the timber deck.
To meet loading requirements the stanchions had to be manufactured from 100x50x6mm RHS. Being able to respond and deliver to the client’s requirements quickly produced a positive end result – a fully compliant, fit-for-purpose smart and functional solution – as well as a happy client!
