Project Background
Not-for-profit organisation Sustainable Housing for Artists and Creatives (SHAC) approached Access Housing to assist them in providing affordable housing options to professional artists working in the Fremantle area who have been priced out of the local housing market.
SHAC and Access Housing signed an MOU in late 2014 to build dwellings on a site within the former Kim Beazley Special School on Stevens Street, White Gum Valley (WGV). Government agency LandCorp is developing the WGV precinct as a unique residential estate featuring leading-edge water and energy saving initiatives.
The $3.5 million complex includes 12 apartments and two studios and is situated three kilometres from the Fremantle city centre.
Access Housing and SHAC members have worked closely to create a living space that will meet the needs of the tenants and will also harmonise with the environmentally sustainable aims of the broader LandCorp development site.
JAXON Group was selected to deliver the project which was completed in mid-2017.
