Project Overview
Northcote College is a secondary school serving its community for more than 140 years, underwent significant upgrades as part of a major campus redevelopment completed in November 2025. Moddex was engaged by Decker Landscapes and Civil to supply handrail and balustrade systems across the site, including 7 stairs, 3 ramps and 9 retaining walls with boundary fencing. The scope covered multiple systems and finishes to suit different areas of the school while supporting safer access throughout the redeveloped grounds.
The Challenge
The site presented a complex layout with traffic management requirements, high drop-offs from retaining walls and intersecting areas with varying fall heights. Construction was staged, meaning handrails and balustrades needed to be installed in phases as sections of wall were completed. This required flexible scheduling, multiple site visits and solutions that could adapt to different conditions without delaying the overall program.
The Moddex Solution
Moddex supplied a combination of Conectabal Commercial Balustrades CB10 and CB40 balustrade for stairs, ramps and boundary fencing at four different heights, along with Assistrail handrail AR10, AR30, AR40 and AR130 handrails across level areas and stairways. Varying mount types, including top-mount and angle-mount configurations, allowed systems to integrate cleanly with the finished structures, all delivered in a HDG390 finish for durability. The approach exceeded compliance requirements while meeting the client’s timeframe and budget, supporting a smooth, staged installation across the site.
